Heart-to-Heart in partnership with Shine Literacy has been impacting the lives of learners at Imekhaya Primary School in Mossel Bay, since 2019.
The Programme provides individualized support to learners in Grades 2 & 3 to strengthen their English reading, writing and language skills – while growing a love for reading. Trained volunteers assist children twice a week during the school day.
In spite of the challenges the Covid-19 Pandemic brought in 2021, Heart-to-Heart’s Literacy Programme experienced many highlights, such as the dedication of our amazing Volunteers, a successful Book Drive and our learners being able to graduate.
A total of 84 books were collected for “take home books,” which is a great way of helping children to nurture their love for books and to improve their reading skills at home.
The Graduation was a great way to conclude the Literacy Programme for the year. We were able to celebrate and reward the 41 learners for all their hard work, despite all the interruptions to the School Year. Each learner received a Christmas Box of Joy, as well as a Graduation Certificate.
